Music and live performances & fireworks. At the stroke of midnight, there'll be a City Different New Year's surprise to kick off the New Year in a family-friendly, uplifting fashion.

The free festivities begin at 8 PM. with stationary heaters and aromatic piñon bonfires ringing the Plaza. Free biscochitos, NM’s official state cookie, will be available while supplies last. Live music from three of Santa Fe's favorite bands will rock the Santa Fe Bandstand beginning at 8 p.m. and continuing until Santa Fe's Mayor kicks off the midnight countdown.

In keeping with Santa Fe’s reputation as the City Different, nothing drops –– instead, Santa Fe welcomes the New Year by raising a handcrafted Zia, the unique symbol that adorns our state flag. As the Zia is raised into the night sky, a high-altitude fireworks display will be launched from the roof of historic La Fonda Hotel, located on the corner of the Old Santa Fe Trail and San Francisco Street. Please note that the fireworks will begin at midnight with a BOOM advisory. The light and sound of the fireworks display will last approximately 10 minute. The festivities conclude with two traditional tunes, Auld Lang Syne and Las Mañanitas.

The streets around the Plaza will be closed at 7 AM on Friday, December 31st, reopening after the event staging has been cleared. Old Santa Fe Trail will be closed from Water Street to the Plaza from 10 AM to noon and again from 11:30 PM until 12:30 AM. Parking lots will operate as usual and parking meters will be enforces until 6 PM. Certain meters in Plaza area will be red-bagged for police and fire use, and we encourage you to avoid any fines that will result from public parking in those spots.
